Roughly a quarter-hour on foot from Taipei Main Station and Ximending — a great spot for the Dadaocheng fireworks — citizenM Taipei North Gate is a wonderful budget-friendly stay: self check-in and out via the pad, a small but complete room with dry-wet split bathroom and wardrobe, iPad-controlled lights TV and AC that's gimmicky but fun, a beautiful loved room view, wonderful staff, no obvious hygiene issues and okay fifth-floor soundproofing, scooters only audible when revving, higher floors better. Notes: no kettle, cutlery or disposable toiletries, a level-two canteen covers hot water, rewards accounts link but carry no perks, and two occupants get crowded; solo trips suit best.
