Downtown Los Angeles Proper is a Kelly Wearstler showpiece where every public space is a photogenic story — a lovely restaurant, a calm compact rooftop bar and tea room, very good food, and nice responsive staff (a noisy night-market-facing room was swapped for a corner view). Rooms are small and ordinary unless you book suites; corridors are dim; the 'pool' is a token kids' splash; and one evening room-service order never arrived.
