“Whitby's Firmdale consistency”
The Whitby Hotel is a wonderful five-star stay — a Firmdale outpost in midtown Manhattan a quick walk to Central Park, Fifth Avenue shopping and MoMA, spacious well-done clean rooms by Manhattan standards, the chain's consistent design and old-school flair, an excellent restaurant, one of the nicer hotel fitness centres, and wonderful staff who attend to every need with an extremely helpful concierge for eating tips; a Christmas stay was thoroughly enjoyed. Caveats though: it is extortionately expensive — not clearly value for money — and one restaurant maître d' was sullen enough to draw complaints.
