Hampton Inn by Hilton Santa Barbara/Goleta is a clean convenient stay for UCSB visits — midway between downtown and the university, a good breakfast, comfortable beds, mostly vacationing guests, and self-drive convenience. Caveats though: severe dissents cite a crappy-for-Santa-Barbara location, an old tattered room with a too-dirty-to-walk carpet, a toilet flush that woke the hotel, barely-edible prefab food, a busy solo desk agent whose face showed annoyance, a broken elevator that meant stair-carrying heavy bags, thin floors and walls carrying footsteps, and a neighboring room noisy till seven in the morning.
