Palazzo Artemide - VRetreats is a best-experience stay — a newer design-forward hotel beside the cathedral and square in the heart of Ortigia, a spacious renovated suite that slept three, meticulous warm service from desk to restaurant to porters, an outdoor breakfast facing the square among neighbors' cats and dogs, a birthday cake prepared for a young son, hotel-arranged old-town parking permits and valet parking for the narrow island roads, and rare thoughtful touches like toothbrushes and tissues; a former seaside booking was happily swapped. Caveats though: the wifi needs a membership sign-in, cars cannot reach the door — a three-minute walk — and a faint new-room smell cleared once aired.
