Azerai La Residence, Hue is Hue's best hotel for guests — a gorgeous 1930s Art Deco former French colonial governor's residence with classy elegant fragrant interiors, an excellent breakfast, a great spa and gym (untested by one rainy-day visitor), a spot close to the Citadel and town, and incredibly helpful warm staff — a seventy-seven-country traveler called it their best-ever reception. One severe allegation though: evening cleaning staff entered rooms and took envelopes of cash — US dollars, Singapore dollars and dong — from luggage.
