“Tasteful new Rome stay, nightmare room runaround”
The Goethe Hotel is a new, tasteful SLH property by the Tiber near Piazza del Popolo — walkable to the Spanish Steps, Vatican and Trevi, nicely decorated air-conditioned rooms, and a mostly friendly front desk. One guest's three-night stay went badly though: a premium room was swapped for a slanted-roof windowless attic that drummed with rain; the replacement's ceiling emitted a microphone-like noise staff confirmed; a promised callback never came; despite same-tier rooms showing available, management offered only a downgrade with no difference refund, and the deposit remained unreturned. Others found the vibe dark and cave-like and food average.
