Maalot Roma - Small Luxury Hotels of the World is a superbly-located stay with a serious caveat — an especially-good five-star hotel very close to the Trevi Fountain for early photo walks, a design-inspired room, extreme service from check-in including a detailed room introduction, tasty welcome desserts, coffee and chocolates, an included à-la-carte breakfast, a free eight-a.m. early check-in against a three-p.m. slot, perfect housekeeping, and staff called the best across a guest's whole hotel experience. Caveats though: the à-la-carte breakfast offered few choices across four days, and a severe report from an expensive-suite guest describes itchy overnight bites suspected as fleas or bed bugs on the last night — hygiene needs strengthening.
