Chiang Mai Marriott Hotel is a warm land-of-smiles stay — a superb location overlooking the city, walking distance to the night market with a convenience store, McDonald's and a beloved roti stand opposite, twenty minutes from the airport, a clean quiet room, an abundant tasty breakfast, an executive-lounge happy hour, an infinity pool where afternoon tea can stretch all afternoon, a day-ahead-booking spa, towel-elephant folding on request, and smiling attentive staff — Kook kindly waived a deposit when a card issue arose and granted the high-floor king request plus small perks and a birthday cake. Caveats though: the fourth-floor pool runs deep and chilly in cloudy weather.
