“L'Auberge Del Mar's warm welcome, dated rooms”

L'Auberge Del Mar Resort and Spa is a wonderful beach-adjacent hotel — an unbeatable location near shops and restaurants, a nice pool and hot tub, superb food and drinks for most, exceptional nightly music sessions held in the lounge, and the friendliest most-accommodating staff guests have met, with valets, bartenders and servers going out of their way. The negatives: rooms are dated — loud rattling AC forced three room changes, paint splashes and nicks showed; the pool overlooks a parking lot (ocean beyond); food ran below-par and slow for two guests; and a paid upgrade still faced the lot.

Rooms: Dated rooms; loud rattling AC drove swaps.
Service: The friendliest, most accommodating staff anywhere.
Location: An unbeatable spot beside beach and shops.
Food: Superb dining for most; slow meals once.
Facilities: A nice pool overlooking the parking lot.
Value: Expensive for dated rooms, some felt.
