On a steep hill — five minutes' walk to Kata and Karon beaches, a taxi or shuttle helps — Novotel Phuket Kata Avista Resort and Spa is an amazing family stay: complete facilities, an abundant breakfast, warm proactive staff carrying bags and playing foosball with kids, a huge bed plus a child's cot, a thoughtful post-swim changing room after a full-house checkout, a tasty restaurant and a good spa massage. Cautions: the steep entrance taxes older legs, and a hygiene-minded guest found condensation pooling under mild air-conditioning made sandy floors grimy, with cold-blast cooling the only fix.
