“Calming Gothic Quarter stay, dated bits”
Mercer Hotel Barcelona is a calming, wonderful old-house boutique steps from world-famous Gothic Quarter sights — rich breakfasts, tasty afternoon tea, warm staff who ferry luggage and can pre-arrange airport transfers, and welcome desserts. Critics push back: no car access means a luggage haul through hard-to-find lanes; one guest called it the worst five-star of their trip — a roach-like bug in the bathroom, mediocre dated fittings, thin dark towels and a lookalike hairdryer; toiletries were also changed for the worse.
