High Country Motor Lodge - Near Nau and Downtown is a loved annual-return stay — beautiful grounds with mountain views, a fun pool and much-loved fire pits, clean new large rooms with comfortable beds, a relaxed cool vibe, tasty breakfast and dinner including a good pizza and an excellent kale Caesar chicken salad, a General store with a great menu, a distinctive bar-like front desk, a welcoming team perfect for pets and weary travelers, and a tradition for NAU families and yearly Idaho visitors. Caveats though: one guest found a heavy smoke smell indoors and out unsuitable for kids, and a freight train passes behind the lodge hourly.
