Sunset Marquis Hotel is an excellent comfortable stay for many — a quiet-in-the-bustle traditional American hotel with garden paths, greenery, little bridges and streams, big rooms (one family with two kids was upgraded), a decent restaurant with good steaks, music touches throughout, a farmers-market tip just south, excellent staff, and strong first-LA recommendations. Caveats though: dissents flag hygiene as only average, windows that do not open, facilities several times older than the photos, an air conditioner as loud as an engine, and loose handles and switches needing proper maintenance.
