Set beside a gorgeous garden, Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto is a relaxed comfortable excellent stay: wonderful not-large rooms — still big for Japan — welcoming friendly proactive thoughtful staff, a gorgeous outdoor garden zone, an especially-delicious restaurant, a superb location near the famous sights, caring home-feeling service (a Shanghai-born manager walked guests to their car) and good housekeeping. Notes: a nine-o'clock cleaning knock felt inconsiderate, one guest read warmer service toward western and Japanese guests than Chinese, and the public areas are compact for a Four Seasons.
