On Zamalek Island — a former palace turned hotel in old-money gold style — Cairo Marriott Hotel is a charming always-booked happy oasis: a very clean tidy Nile-view room, lovely gardens and pool, the best gym of one trip's hotels, an atmospheric palace hall and restaurants, a nice Italian restaurant and exceptional staff , a receptionist thanked by name. Notes: a shower faucet misbehaved, and the service charge plus tax adds up.
