“Nara's nikko stay”
By Nara station — rain-proof access, restaurants and a supermarket downstairs — Hotel Nikko Nara is an among-the-best stay: a bottomless free sake-and-drinks welcome lounge, a clean good room with a big-for-size tub and premium toiletries, a welcome drink, a locally-flavoured breakfast buffet, good soundproofing and a quick swap for a smelly first room. Cautions: slightly old fittings and long walks to far-flung rooms.
