“Timeo's Taormina grandeur”

Grand Hotel Timeo, A Belmond Hotel, Taormina delivers top-tier Belmond service — superb Ionian and Etna views, a lovely well-situated bar with great drinks, welcome fruit, bedtime tea, unhurried three-o'clock checkout even at high occupancy, a seaside sunset restaurant where every dish impressed, and a free half-hourly shuttle to the Sant'Andrea beach side. Caveats: Villa Flora guests get a separate building across a busy street with no bar, restaurant or pool — arguably another hotel — and one guest felt patronized by a receptionist repeatedly checking whether they were staying; a king bed arrived as two joined mattresses.

Rooms: Nice rooms; joined mattresses for one though.
Service: Top tier mostly; a discomforting desk moment.
Location: Stunning views over the Ionian here.
Food: Every dish impressed at sunset dining.
Facilities: A shuttle to the seaside sister property.
Value: Superb; a Villa Flora caveat though.
