Viceroy Chicago is a great-design hotel near Michigan Avenue — colorful warm decor, not-small-for-abroad rooms, daily cleaning, free water dispensers per floor, shopping and Millennium Park close, the deep-dish pizza institution downstairs, a good staff and restaurant, and a rooftop bar (winter-closed). The complaints sting: the booked room was still unready at arrival, the room phone was dead, a refused rollaway (fire hazard) arrived after the grandson went home, sheets went unchanged and a sofa stain uncleaned, loud parties ran late, the pool is cramped, valet took twenty minutes, and a resort fee disclosed at checkout was called deceitful.
