Inkaterra La Casona is an eleven-room 16th-century Relais & Chateaux on Plaza las Nazarenas, a block from the Plaza de Armas — unique luxurious rooms with working fireplaces, huge bathrooms, bathtubs and towel warmers, soundproof windows, happy-hour wine, a fabulous restaurant and the best altitude massage one traveler has had anywhere; every porter and waiter is attentive, a perfect post-Salkantay recovery. One guest's ending curdled everything: an unauthorized card charge about forty percent over the agreed rate, no checkout receipt, and unreachable staff afterward — fraud, they called it.
