Mahekal is a beautiful zen beachfront resort in the middle of Playa del Carmen — a vine-draped private palm beach, treehouse-style rooms, a coffee shop, fun daily activities (merengue, water aerobics, Pilates, yoga), an amazing spa, a rich tasty breakfast, and easy bus access to Cancún and Tulum. Service complaints recur: a rudest ever reception, an arguing night manager when AC died (room eventually moved), unanswered room phones, rationed water and coffee pods; Fuego's food lacked flavour; maintenance and seaweed also drew notes.
