“Hotel Locarno's Roman split”
Hotel Locarno is a gem of a Rome stay for most — a fifth visit since before its renovation keeps delivering superb attentive service in a beautiful Roman setting, nothing too much trouble: a Villa d'Este day trip organised by the staff, pretty-fantastic breakfasts taken in the garden across an eight-day oasis, terrace dinners, lovely nicely-appointed rooms and a central location; even non-guests should come for lunch or dinner. Caveats though: a severe dissent calls it the most disappointing hotel experienced — old, stuffy and humid, a stand-in-the-tub shower that felt slippery and leaked water everywhere, dirty towels, thin walls carrying neighbouring talk, and value questioned.
