Diamond Head Inn is a classic, remodeled Mission Beach stay — right by the beautiful beach, clean rooms with great mattresses and handy kitchenettes, no car needed with restaurants on the block, and great staff; a returning-after-35-years guest loved it. The complaints: absolutely horrible parking — five spots for twenty-one rooms, first-come campers, restricted overnight hours and a sister-property lot blocks away; phones at both properties went unanswered and the room line stayed busy; check-in happens at a different hotel five minutes off; an outdoor shower was dead; a few homeless sightings nearby; ice requires a two-block walk; and soundproofing is thin.
