Remote enough to feel like a retreat near Kinugawa, K's House Nikko charms with the best-equipped hostel kitchen guests have seen, two supermarkets within walking distance, big clean rooms, fantastic calm common areas and genuinely kind staff. An onsen overlooks the forest, loved by most, though one guest calls the water just regular and notes it opens at four. Temples take time to reach and the nearest stations are a haul with luggage, which is exactly the charm.
