An amazing location near Windansea beach — with beach-chair rentals — The Shoal Hotel la Jolla Beach is a motel-format stay more than a hotel: incredibly-nice welcoming staff who fixed a booking error fuss-free, an always-friendly helpful reception, a clean bright room with an extremely comfortable bed, a nicely-renovated bathroom and good upkeep. Cautions: one room sat in a daylight-less tunnel with a too-soft bed, no real blanket and weak shower pressure, soundproofing is poor with rooms reachable from outside, and the paid parking is unguarded though monitored (the resort area itself feels safe.)
