Best forculture seekers · couples
More like being invited into a Kyoto home than a hotel stay — Toshiharu Ryokan is authentically traditional, with tea sets in the room, comfortable futons, a fantastic Japanese breakfast and Yoshiko, called an absolute gem, at check-in. Toilets are shared but guests are few, and two wooden soaking tubs bookable by slot deliver an onsen-like experience. The garden-facing room is the pick.
