Three minutes from the station, ten from the big sights and twenty from the airport bus, Hanchi Hostel is a friendly Istanbul base where Johan's quiet attentiveness gets praised. Twin-bed rooms are recommended, dark and quiet for real rest, breakfast is simple bread, egg and jam with endless refills, low-cost bottled water and cup noodles are sold, self-cooking is allowed, and the rooftop makes a fine day-and-night work perch. Nicks: bathrooms sometimes need a second clean and only the second-floor hairdryer works.
