4 rules before you choose an area
- Stay in Prague 1 or 2. The Old Town, the Lesser Town, the New Town and Vinohrady put the sights within walking distance or a short tram ride.
- Be near a metro or tram stop. Prague's trams and metro are fast and cheap. A hotel within about 5 minutes of a stop saves time every day. Each hotel below shows its estimated walk to the area's centre.
- Mind the cobbles and the hills. Cobbled lanes and the climb to the castle are hard with suitcases. Check the walk on the map.
- Check the currency. The Czech Republic uses the koruna (CZK). Some hotels quote in euros; compare the total in one currency.

Where not to stay in Prague
- Hotels far out sold as "central Prague": check the time to Old Town Square.

- Restaurants with touts on Old Town Square: walk a few streets away.
- Changing money at street booths with "0% commission" signs: use an ATM inside a bank.
Tips for booking a hotel in Prague
- Check the airport route. The Airport Express bus runs to the main station, and bus 119 connects to metro line A.
- Book early for peak dates. Christmas markets (late November to December), Easter and summer fill hotels first. Book with free cancellation.
- Expect the city tax. Prague charges a tax per person per night, usually paid at the hotel.
- Drop your bags before check-in. Most hotels keep luggage before check-in and after check-out, so you can sightsee on arrival and departure days.
